RS40k Spectrometer

The Redback Systems RS40k is a step change in high-resolution spectroscopy. The cross-dispersed echelle design splits light into two orthogonal dimensions which enable single-shot spectroscopy covering a spectral range from 430-950 nm. The RS40k has no moving parts and an elegant, intrinsically stable design. Equipped with a cooled science-grade CMOS detector you can record data with high sensitivity, fast data acquisition, and low background noise.

Broad-spectrum and high-resolution

Echelle spectrometers use a combination of an echelle grating and a secondary, cross-dispersive element (rotated orthogonally to the echelle grating vector) to highly disperse input light onto a 2D CCD or CMOS array. This arrangement allows for simultaneous broad spectral coverage and high spectral resolution. The RS40k can simultaneously record spectra across the VIS-NIR range with a resolution ranging from 10 pm at 430 nm to 30 pm at 950 nm.

Back-illuminated CMOS detector

We make deliberate design choices at every optical interface to maximise the total light throughput, which together with the chosen back-illuminated scientific-grade CMOS detector makes for the unrivaled performance of the RS40k under low-light conditions.

Our careful design considerations position the RS40k as a powerful spectroscopy tool in the growing quantum materials R&D sector, to which Redback Systems is particularly committed.

Compact, robust, and portable

A key feature of the RS40k is its compactness and its easy portability. With a footprint comparable to an A4 sheet of paper, the RS40k finds space on any optical table. It can be simply picked up and moved between optical tables and labs, and because the unit is fully contained there is no re-alignment necessary. Moreover, the travel case provided with the RS40k allows for easy transport beyond the lab.
